Where does the concrete production stage (A3) actually "end" for a volumetric mixer — and why isn't it the loading yard?
For a stationary plant, the production stage (A3) ends at the plant gate — concrete is finished when it leaves the plant. For a volumetric mixer, concrete isn't finished at the loading location at all, so A3 ends somewhere else.
How this worksBecause a volumetric mixer proportions and mixes ingredients on board the truck, the concrete isn't actually produced until it reaches the project site. A3 for a volumetric mixer ends at the point on the project site where the constituents have been proportioned and mixed and the fresh concrete is ready for discharge — not at the material-loading location.
Your material-loading location is only a reference point for where raw materials are stored and staged — it plays a role in calculating A2 transportation distances, but it isn't treated as the production facility itself. Under this model, A2 covers getting materials to that loading location, and A3 covers the loading, proportioning, and mixing activity itself, wherever the truck ultimately mixes and discharges the concrete.
