What Is the DPP?

The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a European Union initiative that aims to create standardized, machine-readable records of a product's environmental attributes — including embodied carbon — throughout its life cycle. It is being developed as part of the EU's broader Sustainable Products Regulation (SPR) and is expected to apply to construction materials including concrete.

Current Status

DPP timelines and exact requirements for construction products are still evolving. However, the direction is clear: European regulators intend to require verified product-level environmental data, and EPDs are expected to form a core component of DPP compliance.

What This Means for Producers
