What is Product Management Tools, and how do the Spec Reviewer, Mix Designer and Bid Reports work together?
Product Management Tools is designed to help a ready-mix producer move from a job specification to a testable mix to a bid-ready carbon report, faster and with more traceability. It brings three workflows together: reviewing specifications, designing and improving mixes, and reporting a project's carbon impact.
The three workflows|
Workflow |
What it helps you do |
|
Specification review (Spec Reviewer) |
Find concrete applications, requirements, source references, missing documents and bid risks in PDF specifications. |
|
Mix design support (Mix Designer, with the AI Mix Design Assistant, placement ratings, the Predictive Strength Model and Enhance) |
Build, compare and improve mixes using plant materials, project requirements and selected goals. |
|
Project carbon reporting (Bid Reports) |
Compare the concrete proposed for a project with a published benchmark or a project carbon budget. |
How the pieces fit together
1. Review the specification. The Spec Reviewer reads your PDF specification, identifies the concrete applications, and extracts the stated requirements, with the file, page and section for each value.
2. Start a Mix Designer project. After you accept one application, the Spec Reviewer populates an editable form. Each Mix Designer project represents one application with one set of requirements.
3. Design and compare mixes. In Mix Designer you build a mix manually, copy an existing one, or start from an AI-suggested mix. Expected strength by age, cost, carbon, gradation and placement ratings update as you edit, and Enhance can propose an improved mix.
4. Report the carbon impact. In Bid Reports you add the project's applications, with mix, strength, volume and GWP data, and compare them with a benchmark or carbon budget.
The designed outcome is a faster, more traceable workflow from specification to testable mix to bid-ready carbon report.
What to have ready|
Workflow |
Most useful inputs |
|
Specification review |
One representative PDF specification and any referenced PDF documents. |
|
Mix design |
A current mix, your plant materials, project limits, material prices and any available test data. |
|
Bid Reports |
Applications, volume by application, the required benchmark or budget, and the current EPD status of your mixes. |
Key terms
- f'cr: the required average strength, the over design target a mix is designed to reach.
- w/cm: the water-to-cementitious materials ratio.
- SCM: supplementary cementitious material, such as fly ash, slag cement or silica fume, used to replace part of the cement.
- Paste: the cementitious materials, water and air in a mix. Paste content affects cost, workability and shrinkage.
- Slump: a measure of how fluid fresh concrete is. In these tools it's an input you set, and you verify it in the field.
- GWP: global warming potential, the measure of a mix's embodied carbon.
- EPD: environmental product declaration, which provides declared environmental impact values for a product.
These tools support your work, but they aren't a contract, a compliance sign-off or an engineering approval. See the related article for where review is still required.
